I’d decided pretty early on that Horseman was the obvious choice for H even though it isn’t strictly an angel figure. Finding the right image proved to be more of an evolution than I anticipated. My initial concept was to show all four horsemen after the style of Durer’s “Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse” but the image didn’t come together the way I had hoped. After setting it aside for a while I came up with a second inspiration for the Horseman as this combination man-beast-machine, but that didn’t make it much past the conceptual phase. The image you see here was largely inspired by the music of System of a Down which is half political/social commentary and half free association. Something about that seemed to ring true. In the end I think that the Horseman is a specter painted in our minds by sensationalistic media projecting a culture of fear that begins to overshadow reality.
