The figure of Bride comes from Scottish-Irish mythology (Bride in Scotland, Brighid in Ireland). She is a goddess figure associated with the coming of spring out of the winter (which is represented by an old woman called "Callaig") and is the patron of poetry, hearth fires, metal smiths, and childbirth.
